The four routines, aimed at mothers with infants that are 3-6 months old, focus on the body parts that have changed during pregnancy and the easy to follow, gentle workouts enable new Mum’s to get back into shape at their own pace. The baby can even be incorporated in some of the routines providing calm bonding time.

Introducing a great solution for responsible parents:

The Removable Child Safety Window Barrier by HomeGuard Products

  • Protects children under the age of 5 from open windows
  • Allows the room to be ventilated safely
  • You can install it yourself
  • It’s removable in seconds
  • Simple keyless locking system
  • Immediate telephone support for easy installation

Why has this product been created?

We noticed that there was not a responsible solution for protecting children from climbing out of windows. Numerous cases exist of this very occurrence, with Eric Clapton’s son’s death a well publicised example.

It was apparent that responsible parents needed:

- A solution that was a physical barrier for the child, but also allowed the window to be open so as to keep the room ventilated.

- A solution needed to be quick and easy to install and to remove.

Parents may not want the barrier up all the time so the barrier can be removed quickly, particularly in case of fire. In fact, building and fire regulations insist on this being the case.

If your window sits less than 800mm from the floor, you are obliged under Building Regulations Part K2 to have a barrier for children under the age of 5.

How easy is it to install?

Very easy!  You or your husband can do this. All that is required is 2 sidebars drilled and secured into the outer window frame or brickwork internally. We would not drill into UPVC windows in order to protect your guarantee, but will be able to install around any type of window. The width of the barrier is variable depending upon the width of your window, typically from 200mm upwards. The main barrier simply slides into place, sitting on hangers on both sides of the sidebars.

The barrier is then secured with a keyless locking system.  The locks takes 2 seconds to lock, or unlock, allowing you to put the barrier in place, or remove it virtually immediately.

 What else?

  • It’s a unique UK product
  • A solution is required by law if your window sits less than 800mm from the floor
  • It is independently tested and approved as a “safe product”
  • It is strength tested: can withstand 32 stone/460lbs

As we begin 2012, invariably we are focused on our New Year’s resolutions. In fact, according to a recent study, 95% of us will attempt to make (and keep) at least one resolution. Of course, the usual suspects include: eating more healthily, spending more time with family and friends and losing weight.  Not surprisingly given the current economic climate the top resolution for 2012 is to save money.

Saving money can take numerous forms, from reducing spending to paying off debt to spending more wisely.  Ideally, one wants to be doing all three, but where does one start?  At Shopitize, we think the first step is to understand where your money is currently spent so that   outgoings can be eliminated or reprioritized.

Given that more than 75% of us will have already broken our resolutions by the end of January, in February, Shopitize will make available a few on-line tools via our Beta Program to help people begin to understand their spending.

Using a smartphone application (Android or iPhone), or the Shopitize website, we will enable you to store your receipts and to analyse your expenses. Our receipt storage feature is ideal for centralising all your receipts; storing, sorting and making them easily accessible.  And our receipt analysis tool will enable you to classify and visualize your spending to understand which categories are essential and which ones can be reduced.

To participate, simply  sign up for the ShopitizeBeta program by sending your name and email address to shoppingmadeeasy@shopitize.com, where you will be registered in anticipation of its release. Further information can be found at http://shopitize.com/about

For many of you, planning Christmas spending is a prelude to setting the next year’s family budget.  And two of the biggest challenges are keeping track and making sense of the heap of paper receipts.  Add to the mix an inquisitive two year old who mischievously adds receipts to her own purse and reviewing your spending can be a challenge to say the least.

A brand new mobile application Snapprize solves these problems. The application is the brainchild of the team at Shopitize, created to make it easier to understand what we buy and to make sure the sale offers we receive are personalized based on things that are relevant.  While the Shopitize system is still being created, for this Christmas season, the first step in the journey to savvy shopping is to make managing your receipts easier.

So, no more sorting through paper receipts.  Just snap a photo of your receipt, upload it from your computer, send it via an email or capture it using a special Android app.  Your receipts are then automatically stored for you on-line.  And safely out of reach of curious toddlers.

In true Christmas spirit, Shopitize is conducting a £25 weekly prize drawing and a £500 grand prize drawing before Christmas for uploading your receipts.

·         To participate in the competition you can either download the Snapprize app from the Android Marketplace or if you do not have an android smartphone, there are three new ways to enter:

  • Submit receipts using a personal @Shopitize.me email address:
    • Register on the website (https://shopitize.com/registration/)
      • A personalized @shopitize.me email address is created during the sign-up process; (for existing accounts, the address is created automatically)o   This address enables you to snap receipts in whatever manner you choose and send by simply attaching to your personal @shopitize.me email address;
      • Please note that for security, the email must be sent from the same e-mail address which was used to register with Shopitize.
  • Upload receipt photos from your computer:
    • Log into your account on the Shopitize site
      • Go to the ‘my account’ tab and click on the “Upload from PC” button
      • Select the receipt images which you want to submit and select “Submit”;
  • Upload receipt photos from Evernote:
    • For users of the Evernote application (https://www.evernote.com/), you can upload receipts that may be stored here.  This works as follows:
      • Log into their account on the Shopitize site
      • Go to the ‘my account’ tab and click on the “Upload receipts from Evernote” button
      • Select the receipt images which you want to submit and select “Submit”;

Today’s economic climate is putting increasing pressure on family spending. But one London start-up company, Shopitize, is working to save mums time and money by better managing their weekly shop.

“When we looked at the marketplace, it seemed no one was making it easier for families to manage their weekly purchases.“ said Michael Bullion, the Chief Product & Marketing Officer at Shopitize.  “Given the time and money spent on the weekly shop, we set out to transform this process.”

With the Shopitize system, you will be able to take snaps of your receipts using a mobile phone and send them via a personalized e-mail address or using a smartphone app. The Shopitize system then presents personalized savings opportunities.

Shopitize recently released the first part of this system called Snapprize. Snapprize enables you to experience the ease of snapping and sending receipts with the touch of a button. You'll also be able to keep track on what you've spent by accessing your receipts on-line at any time.

And for participating, mums are automatically entered into the weekly £25 prize draw, which culminates in a £500 grand prize draw before Christmas.

To participate, sign-up and begin snapping or download from the Android Marketplace

Mums Like You teamed up with Buyapowa to bring you discounted deals on family products using the power of mums buying together ('co-buys'). This week we will be spreading the word about their latest family deals - the award winning Organic Monkey set and Snazaroo face painting kit.

BuyaPowa is a new website that makes the bulk-buy discounts which have previously only been available to retailers available to everyone - and on the products they really want (including, of course, parenting products). They call their sales ‘co-buys’ because they're all about people coming together to drive prices down. Every co-buy lasts for a limited time and has a limited number of units (often 100) - when it's sold out, it's sold out.

Once you join a co-buy, you’ll want to spread the word - because, as more people join the co-buy, the price will get lower, and lower, and lower. But, when the co-buy closes, everyone who has joined will pay the final price. So it doesn't matter whether you're the first in there or the last in line - everyone gets to pay the lowest price achieved. Best of all, whoever brings the most number of friends into a co-buy receives their product absolutely free.

BuyaPowa is all about helping mums access great bulk-buy prices on the things they want, and they base their co-buys on the products mums have requested. So if you'd like to get a buggy, baby equipment or something special for yourself for less, you can make a request here!

SPONSORED BLOG

Cecilia Thorfinn is 37, a Swedish mum of a lovely little girl, turning 5 this year. She lives in the Netherlands and is married to a Dutch politician. She is also the inventor and main force behind the MummyMug - a smart new product enabling mums to have a hot drink safely around their babies.

We asked Cecilia to share with us her experience of turning her idea into a promising business. Here is what she told us.

How did you come up with the idea? I came up with the idea standing one morning in my kitchen a few years ago. I was holding Eleonore, then just a newborn baby, on one arm, and was longing for a cup of coffee. But the words of my brother, who is a plastic surgeon and operates on burn victims,  was ringing in my ears - you must let your cup stand and cool off for a whole 15 minutes before it is safe - water warmer than 60 degrees will cause a 3rd degree burn within 3 seconds on your baby.

And then the thought suddenly crossed my mind: I need a MummyMug. Something that will allow me to still enjoy my drink without risking causing an accident.  It would have to be something stylish and something that closed up after every sip, so I would not have to worry about closing a lid manually. The idea for the MummyMug had entered my heart - and was from that moment on not going to go away! I quickly discovered that there was no such product in the market, and started developing the functional design, the branding and the marketing strategy.

What are the key benefits of the MummyMug? I am proud to bring something innovative to market, which will make the life of children a bit safer, and the life of mothers and fathers a little bit more relaxed. Functionality of course comes first, as with all safety products. But we have also worked very hard to make the MummyMug something stylish and unique, adding some well-deserved wellness to the everyday life of parents.

What were the challenges of turning your idea into a business? Product development is a long and sometimes difficult and expensive road to walk, the MummyMug has turned into a fully fledged and full time enterpreneurial adventure. As such, it has taken much more time than I anticipated. I really got going in 2009, and the financial crisis certainly was a challenge for a startup company like mine. I am very proud to have managed to raise the necessary funds during this difficult period, and take that as an extra vote of confidence in me and the MummyMug.

Another challenge, but truly a positive one, is the variety in the tasks one has to fulfil as an entrepreneur. The process from idea to market is presenting me with a new challenge every day, ranging from bookkeeping to selecting plastics to planning trade fair participation, seeking subsidies and planning a social media marketing strategy.  I used to be a diplomat working for the European Commission, so my training and background has not helped me much in solving the tasks coming my way. But the variety in the entrepreneurial challenge is indeed what makes it so interesting!

What helped you most to overcome them? Giving myself the permission to simply dare to do it! To try, to succeed but also to dare to make mistakes. I have certainly also had the privilege of teaming up with enthusiastic and experienced experts along the way, and without their support and insights, I would not have come this far.

What are your business objectives? The objective of my business is to bring the MummyMug to all Mums and Dads out there, who enjoy a cup of tea or coffee but who realize that they should not expose their children to the risk of scalding burns. The MummyMug is a hot drink safety solution, a unique and stylish coffee/tea mug with a smart, lip-operable lid that allows 360 degree drinking and closes up after every sip. Used correctly, the MummyMug will minimize the risk of spills and will allow parents a safe coffee break around their kids.  We are in the final stages of finalizing the product and preparing for manufacturing, which will take place in Sweden. We have met with a lot of positive response from the market, including getting a prestigeous nomination as finalist in the Innovation Award competition at the Kind&Jugend annual international trade fair for the baby industry in Cologne, Germany.

What differentiates you from your competitors? We have a unique product that addresses an everyday problem that most parents encounter.

If you could give one piece of advice to other entrepreneurs, what would it be? See yourself as the main investor in the company you want to start, and set yourself a clear limit from the beginning as to how much risk you are willing to take in terms of spending time and money on your venture. It is also indispensable to seek advice as early as possible in the process from business coaches and others who have experience of a similar product or process, that can map out what a realistic time frame and budget is for you to reach your goal.
