Baby Led Weaning.  It sounded like a great idea; the perfect way to avoid the troubles we had with weaning TB.  Chuck the food at Little Mister, let him pick what he wanted, hey presto! Solid food mastered.  And he was doing so well.  At five months we decided to let him 'play' with food, pieces of fruit and veg.  He demolished apple and potato, carrot and broccoli were ok and green beans were sniffed at before being discarded.  Read on at Glowstars.net

Wow! I can't believe that six months have passed already since I returned to work after maternity leave. It seems like an appropriate time to once again re-evaluate my Working Mum Resolutions .   Don't Offer My Time For Free I have found it incredibly easy to switch off at exactly 5.30pm. I have rarely, perhaps only once, switched on my laptop out of working hours. I don't feel any less productive than I was pre-Lara and and I don't feel any guilt. Things feel RIGHT. Don't Take Work Home Well, I have a laptop now (through no choice of my own). But, surprisingly, it hasn't made me any more likely to work from home. I'm doing well at this one! Make Thursdays Fund...

When the husband told me Little Mister was on the move I didn't quite believe him.  Sure, I'd seen the kid roll from back to front and then decide that he wanted someone else to roll him back, but I really didn't think that was enough to propel himself under the armchair.  Read on at Glowstars.net

This blog post was written by my Mum! Not being the sort of person who automatically likes babies just because they are babies, I have been rather puzzled over the years when intelligent, rational, middle aged friends, both female and male, turned into misty-eyed dreamers at the mere mention of their grandchildren. Surely nothing could compare to having a child of your own? To holding your first baby in your arms and thinking, “We made that!” A generation down the line, wouldn’t a certain amount of remoteness come into play? All that changed in June 2009 when our first grandchild Lara was born. I first held her just a few hours after she was born and fell in love at first sight. The feeling of “We made a child who wa...

A friend was telling me recently how she doesn’t like her 1-year old to eat the food in restaurants because the children’s menus are always so unhealthy. I got to thinking about places I had been and the meals on their kids menus and I had to agree that they definitely tend to be quite unhealthy choices. Things like burger and chips, chicken nuggets and cheesy pasta seem common. There’s a distinct lack of nutritional fruit and vegetables in those dishes. After parents are advised during the weaning stage to introuduce a wide variety of fruits and vegetables and to steer clear of salt and sugar in the food for their children, it’s strange to see such a different approach in restaurant food for little people. It appears...

The prompt for this weeks gallery was A Novel Idea , I thought I would struggle with this one until I looked back through my old photos and found a album packed full of images that represent my all time favourite book. These photos that I took were from a garden I visited a few years ago. I was the only one their that day , it was quiet apart from the sounds the doves & ducks were making. It did feel rather magical at the time and I totally got lost in the moment whilst walking around exploring. I will one day visit the real gardens that provided the inspiration for the book. Can you guess what my favourite book is?

I first visited Portsmouth Historic Dockyards when I was 10, maybe 11 years old.  In those days there wasn't a great deal there; the HMS Warrior 1860, HMS Victory and the Mary Rose being sprayed down with salt water - the parents didn't bother with anything else and we just followed.  The day out held interest for me only because we'd recently studied the Mary Rose at school.  Read on at Glowstars.net

I send Lara to the childminder with a lunchbox, partly because I wouldn't want to burden the childminder with the need to provide separate, baby-safe foods for just Lara; and partly because it means I am still in control of what types of food (and importantly, how much junk) Lara eats. I admit, I have strong views on feeding my toddler so the following may sound a bit preachy in places but remember - I'm mellow - I don't live stricly by my 'healthy eating' rules but I try my best - bringing Lara up with a love of healthy food is IMPORTANT to me. I'm always on the lookout for ideas for healthy, easy-to-prepare, filling snacks to put into Lara's lunchboxes. I've found a number of life-savers over the past few months that I want...

For a bit of fun I was challenged by The Sun to buy something more exciting with £9.50 then a fabulous holiday. We're not ones to turn down a challenge so we happily accepted but it was only when the £9.50 arrived that we truly struggled to thing of something. What is exactly more exciting then a holiday? We searched the Internet for ideas and we trawled town for what seemed like hours in the hunt for something that excited us more then a holiday. We even asked total strangers and the reply we got was that there isn't anything more exciting then a holiday , especially a holiday that only costs £9.50 . What great help they were. So we decided to think outside of the box , to me what excites me more then a week...
