Domestic violence continues to be the biggest problem facing women and children in this country with 1 woman in 4 experiencing domestic violence at some point in her life and 2 women a week in England and Wales being killed by a current or former partner.  Let’s not forget the children, in 90% of domestic violence incidents in a family with children, children are in the same or next room, and in 50% of these cases, children are directly abused.   We know there are thousands more women and children across the country who urgently need to access Refuge’s services of emergency accommodation or seek legal, emotional and practical support.  Through 2012 we will need all of our fantastic supporters to give as...

They've recently updated their guide on breastfeeding premature and scik babies, here is more information on it and where to find it.  The Best Start guide provides guidance and instruction on how to express and breastfeed premature or sick babies. It also gives step-by-step advice on the practicalities of providing milk for babies, benefiting both mother and baby physically and emotionally. Parents of sick and premature babies will be experiencing a very challenging and emotional time, however they can receive support both on the unit or through the Bliss support helpline, website and messgeboard to help give their ...

Each year we are on the lookout for special and unusual presents for our Christmas gift lists. This year we've decided to back the NSPCC fundraiser Letter from Santa initiative. It gives parents, grandparents and anyone else the chance to nominate someone special to receive a magical Letter from Santa for a suggested donation of £5. The letter is personalised with the child’s name and age and confirms his sleigh stop in the child’s home town to wish everyone a merry Christmas. The letter is written in a hand script font and is beautifully illustrated on quality colourful paper. The envelope shows that it’s been safely delivered through ‘express Rudolph Mail’. The person ordering the letter also stands the chan...

A Mother’s Day message from Debbie Buttars, Refuge supporter and mum of Hannah Fisher   This Mother’s Day I will not receive a card from my daughter.  Hannah Louise Fisher, was murdered, at the age of 21, by her ex-partner Simon Marsh.
