Saving the Saving Resolution in 2012

As we begin 2012, invariably we are focused on our New Year’s resolutions.   In fact, according to a recent study, 95% of us will attempt to make (and keep) at least one resolution. Of course, the usual suspects include: eating more healthily, spending more time with family and friends and losing weight.   Not surprisingly given the current economic climate the top resolution for 2012 is to save money.      Saving money can take numerous forms, from reducing spending to paying off debt to spending more wisely.   Ideally, one wants to be doing all three, but where does one start?   At Shopitize, we think the first step is to understand where your money is curre...

For many of you, planning Christmas spending is a prelude to setting the next year’s family budget.  And two of the biggest challenges are keeping track and making sense of the heap of paper receipts.  Add to the mix an inquisitive two year old who mischievously adds receipts to her own purse and reviewing your spending can be a challenge to say the least. A brand new mobile application Snapprize solves these problems. The application is the brainchild of the team at Shopitize , created to make it easier to understand what we buy and to make sure the sale offers we receive are personalized based on things that are relevant.  While the Shopitize system is still being created, for this Chris...

Today’s economic climate is putting increasing pressure on family spending. But one London start-up company, Shopitize , is working to save mums time and money by better managing their weekly shop.  “When we looked at the marketplace, it seemed no one was making it easier for families to manage their weekly purchases.“ said Michael Bullion, the Chief Product & Marketing Officer at Shopitize.  “Given the time and money spent on the weekly shop, we set out to transform this process.” With the Shopitize system, you will be able to take snaps of your receipts using a mobile phone and send them via a personalized e-mail address or using a smartphone app. The Shopitize system then p...

Mums Like You teamed up with Buyapowa to bring you discounted deals on family products using the power of mums buying together ('co-buys'). This week we will be spreading the word about their latest family deals - the award winning Organic Monkey set and Snazaroo face painting kit. BuyaPowa is a new website that makes the bulk-buy discounts which have previously only been available to retailers available to everyone - and on the products they really want (including, of course, parenting products). They call their sales ‘co-buys’ because they're all about people coming together to drive prices down. Every co-buy lasts for a limited time and has a limited number of units (often 100) - when it's so...

Things I never knew about nappies

*** This is a sponsored post *** Pampers  recently took a group of bloggers to their high tech test facility in Germany.  I had to go, not only did it give me the chance of a night away from the small people, but I was also intrigued as to what a nappy test facility would really be like. You'd have thought that after nearly two and a half years of using nappies and having two in nappies there wouldn't be much I didn't know about nappies.  I was wrong. In fact I learnt quite a few things. Read more things you never knew about nappies at Muddling Along Mummy

Car journeys with kids are rarely pleasant affairs.  Hell, car journeys with husbands aren’t either.  And as for me, I just get bored.  Maybe that’s all our problem.  TB will sleep 50% of the time and then I can hunker down with a book but for that other 50% of the time the cries of ‘I’m bored!’ and ‘are we nearly there yet?’ can get too much and that's with only one of the kids at it. Boil in the bag bottles

The thought of sterilising my breast pump at work was problematic. We’ve got a microwave steriliser but it’s bulky; I could take it to the office and just leave it in my locker but that wouldn’t leave me any space for the six pairs of shoes I keep there. Then there’s the issue of whether it’ll actually fit in the microwave; the steriliser won’t fit in ours at home. My only solution was the little sterilising box that came with my first breast pump. It’s compact and fits in our tiny microwave. Of course if I took that to work then we wouldn’t have anything to sterilise bottles with at home and I wasn’t about to buy a second (fairly naff) pump just to get the box that came with it. The Digital Data Universe

USB Sticks. We all have them. They seem to be almost as common an accessory as a bottle opener on your keyring. What we don't often consider is what would happen to the data on our USB stick if it were lost. Not only would the data contained on the stick be lost, but in many cases it would be available to whoever found your USB stick. Hardly ideal. Just imagine losing your precious photo memories that you've spent the years storing up. As many of us have experienced, they're not even safe on your computer's hard drive. Even technology fails. Read on at Glowstars.net and enter our giveaway to win one of three YuuWaa Go flash drives.
